"Zonnestein" is the name of the old building of the Music and Dance School in Amstelveen, The Netherlands, where the Second String Orchestra of this school for many years held its weekly rehearsal. The Zonnestein Symfonie, an homage to this very special place, was written in one-part a symphonic form. Its first theme, in G, is introduced by the first violins. The second theme, in D, can be heard in the celli for the first time. Later both themes are present in all parts.
