Scales and Arpeggios is a kind of playful study, written in a rhapsodic form. A short introduction sets the main theme, being the scale of G. After the first scale part, the first and second violins play triads of G and D, while the third violins weave their own melody through this. After this the scale of E minor sounds, followed by a short climax leading to the recapitulation in G. Scales and Arpeggios is very useful for the development of detached bowing.
